Custom Iron On Patches Ltd is committed to making the customirononpatches.co.uk website as accessible as possible to all users, including users with disabilities. This Accessibility Statement describes the standards we aim to meet, known limitations, how to report accessibility issues and how to request reasonable adjustments when ordering.

This commitment supports our obligations under the Equality Act 2010 and reflects best-practice web accessibility standards.

1. Our Accessibility Commitment

Custom Iron On Patches aims to:

  • Make the website usable by people with a wide range of abilities and disabilities
  • Meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA standard as a working target
  • Provide reasonable adjustments to the ordering process for customers with specific accessibility needs
  • Continuously improve accessibility as the website evolves

We recognise that no website is perfectly accessible to everyone and that achieving full WCAG conformance is an ongoing process. We are committed to addressing accessibility issues as they are identified.

2. WCAG 2.2 Level AA – Target Standard

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 set internationally recognised standards for web accessibility across four principles:

  • Perceivable – information and interface components are presentable to users in ways they can perceive
  • Operable – interface components and navigation are operable by users
  • Understandable – information and interface operation are understandable
  • Robust – content is robust enough to be interpreted reliably by a wide range of user agents and assistive technologies

WCAG defines three conformance levels: A (basic), AA (recommended), and AAA (highest). Custom Iron On Patches targets Level AA as the practical recommended standard for commercial websites.

3. What We Have Done

The Custom Iron On Patches website is built with the following accessibility considerations:

3.1 Visual Accessibility

  • Sufficient colour contrast between text and background to meet WCAG AA contrast ratios (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text and UI components)
  • Resizable text, content remains readable when text is enlarged up to 200%
  • Logical reading order maintained when stylesheets are disabled
  • Alternative text for informative images
  • No reliance on colour alone to convey information

3.2 Keyboard and Navigation Accessibility

  • Keyboard navigability, all interactive elements (links, buttons, forms) are reachable and operable using only the keyboard
  • Visible focus indicators for keyboard users
  • Skip-to-content links to bypass repetitive navigation
  • Consistent navigation structure across all pages
  • Logical tab order through page content

3.3 Screen Reader Accessibility

  • Semantic HTML structure, proper use of headings, lists, links, buttons and form labels
  • ARIA labels where standard HTML semantics are insufficient
  • Form labels properly associated with input fields
  • Error messages associated with form fields where appropriate

3.4 Content Accessibility

  • Plain English used wherever possible, technical terms explained where introduced
  • Descriptive link text, links describe their destination rather than relying on “click here”
  • Page titles are unique and descriptive
  • Headings structured hierarchically (H1 → H2 → H3)
  • Tables include header cells for screen reader navigation

3.5 Mobile Accessibility

  • Responsive design, content adapts to mobile screen sizes
  • Touch targets sized appropriately for finger interaction (minimum 44 × 44 pixels for primary controls)
  • No horizontal scrolling at standard mobile zoom levels

4. Known Limitations

We acknowledge the following accessibility limitations on the current website. We are working to address these.

  • Some images may lack alternative text, older blog images or product images uploaded before alternative text was systematically applied
  • PDF documents, historical PDF documents (older invoices, archived documentation) may not be fully accessible to screen readers
  • Embedded video content, YouTube/Vimeo embeds may have variable caption availability depending on the original video
  • Third-party widgets, payment forms (Stripe), review widgets (Trustpilot), and chat widgets may have accessibility limitations outside our direct control
  • Complex tables, pricing tables and specification tables may have limitations for screen reader users despite proper header marking

These limitations are being addressed progressively. Our aim is to resolve all known issues within 6 months of identification.

5. Reasonable Adjustments for Ordering

We provide reasonable adjustments for customers with accessibility needs at any stage of the ordering process. Examples of adjustments we can provide:

  • Telephone or email ordering , full quote and order processing by phone or email for customers who find the website difficult to use
  • Large-print correspondence, quotes, proofs and invoices in large print on request
  • Alternative file formats, proofs in formats more compatible with assistive technology where possible
  • Extended response times, flexible communication timing for customers requiring it
  • Supported decision-making, talking through options by phone for customers who prefer guided ordering
  • Easy-read summaries of key terms (Privacy Policy, T&Cs, Returns Policy) on request
